Not only that (and most importantly), the structural shape of the Mono Base means that it offers plants optimal rooting and water penetration, meaning no soil compaction. Plants are able to grow freely with plenty of nutrients. The Colombo Mano Base is made from natural clay sources and creates a beautiful look in your aquarium. Furthermore, its soft, rounded nature makes it ideal for bottom dwellers and their soft whiskers.

The Mano Base stores nutrients when they are in excess, meaning it can release them when the plants need them. This means better growth of planted plants, better water treatment and less algae.

Recommendations:

1 - Wash the MonoBase 3 times before using it. This will remove all dust particles.

2 - For optimal results and long-term fertilization, start by placing a layer of Colombo NutriBase on the bottom of the tank (sold separately).

3 - Apply a layer of Mono Base over the bottom, making sure you have at least 5cm depth. Any less than this and planting will be difficult. It is generally easier to have it higher up in the back of the tank, tilted forward.

4 - Start filling the tank so that only the substrates are covered with water - add more wood or rock and then plant. This is by far the easiest method. Mist the plants with water as you plant to prevent them from drying out. But make sure you know where you are going to plant them beforehand. It is best to plan this out in advance (try sketching it out on paper so you have a diagram to follow).

5 - Once this is complete, slowly fill the rest of the tank (use a sieve to avoid disturbing the substrate). Use lukewarm water if possible.

MonoBase is available in red and black depending on your choice. The grain size is 1-2mm.
