The Freiberger, also known as the Franches-Montagnes or Cheval du Jura, is a traditional Swiss horse breed originating from the Jura mountain region of Switzerland. Its history dates back to the early 19th century and it once served as a versatile horse for farms, the military and draft work in difficult terrain. Today it is a versatile riding and draft horse valued for its temperament and robustness.
