Origin and history of the breed

The English Thoroughbred was created in the 17th–18th centuries in England by crossing local mares with oriental stallions (Arabian, Berber and Turkish).

The basis of the breed is formed by three legendary stallions:

Darley Arabian

Godolphin Arabian

Byerley Turk

Since then, the breed has been bred exclusively as a purebred, which means that only horses with both parents registered in the Thoroughbred stud book can be entered in the stud book.

The English Thoroughbred is a typical representative of the warmblooded sport horse with an emphasis on speed and endurance.
