1. Pôvod a história plemena: Garrano je jedným z najstarších pôvodných plemien koňa na Iberskom polostrove. Žije na severozápade Portugalska a v susednom Galícijskom Španielsku v horských oblastiach ako Peneda-Gerês a Trás‑os‑Montes. Paleolitické maľby naznačujú, že podobné kone tu existovali už tisíce rokov pred naším letopočtom.
